Gillespie County Fair
| County
fairs are a big tradition in Texas and the Gillespie
County Fair is no exception. Thousands came to enjoy three
days of food and festivities. |
|
| Vendors at
the fair, like The Memories Mall,
were housed in a large open air barn. When the afternoon thunderstorms
rolled through, closing the canvas sides proved to be quite a challenge. |
|
| We were lucky
enough to be located in a corner space with a view of the race track.
The horse racing really generated a lot of excitement throughout
the weekend. |
|
| Carnival rides
on the midway provided entertainment for the younger crowd. |
|
| Between rides
and races, many people stopped by the booth to shop and remember
the people, places and things depicted on our reproduction vintage
signs. |
|
| After a long
day of meeting and greeting, Sue and I stayed in a charming little
one room cabin at the KOA
Kampgrounds. Mornings and evenings were spent relaxing on
the porch swing. |
|
| Sunday morning
as we arrived at the fair grounds, we saw a vintage airplane circling
above. After several exciting low passes we could see it getting ready
to land. |
|
| Stopping at the
airport next to the fair to get a closer look, we discovered the Hangar
Hotel. This is a great place to stay and is well suited for
reunions and business meetings. The diner is a beautiful recreation
of the roadside eateries of America's past. |

There's nothing
quite like a county fair. We made new friends and met a lot of nice
people. If you have a good story to tell about a county fair, drop
us an email and we'll share it here.
