This truly unique Naval Masterpiece Collection contains die cast models of six of the most famous US warships of the second world war. The USS Arizona where it all began, the USS Hornet, that launched the famous "Doolittle Raid", and the powerful USS New Jersey, the most decorated battleship in the history of the US Navy.

Now an Sea, Air & Space Museum at Pier 8 in New York City, the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid saw action in the Marshall Islands and Philipines, the Heavy Cruiser USS Indianapolis, was tragically lost while returning from Tinian Island after delivering the atomic bomb and the battleship USS Missouri, the site of the official end of World War II.

The USS Indianapolis was a Portland Class Heavy Cruiser. After being torpedoed, the Indianapolis went down in 15 minutes with 300 men still aboard. The remaining crewmen were left floating in shark infested water for four days before being spotted by a Navy plane.

Commissioned in 1916, the Arizona was just over 600 feet long. Possibly the most famous ship of the twentieth century, the USS Arizona served in both the Atlantic and Pacific. The Pennsylvania Class Battleship was tragically lost during the attack at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

In April 1942, the Hornet launched a squadron of B-25's, led by Lt. Colonel Jimmy Doolittle, in the first air strike on the enemies homeland. After serving at the battle of Midway, the (seventh) USS Hornet was sunk in October 1942, defending Guadalcanal in the Battle of Santa Cruz.

The Defenders of America Naval Museum is an all volunteer, non-profit organization based in Kemah, Texas. The Museum's mission is to promote the history and preserve, in operating condition, a collection of combatant small naval craft of the US Navy. They currently are restoring PT-305, a Landing Craft Personnel built by the Higgins Boat Co. and a Viet Nam era PBR river patrol boat. Pay them a visit and do what you can to preserve naval history.
